Understanding Trauma

Starting with the original 1800’s trauma healing model (that is still in use today) we will discuss how trauma “support” history has influenced how trauma is perceived and addressed to this day.  We will address how trauma manifests, short and long term, and cover the most known trauma intervention strategies, e.g. EMDR, Somatic Experience, Hypnosis, CBT, Ego State, etc.  Attendees will gain insight of when each intervention is most applicable and supportive and what limitations and risks come with those interventions. The course will present a concrete and functional definition of trauma and a framework for understanding the full range of the trauma continuum and the needs of the persons impacted.  Course discussion will be guided by the interests and questions of attendees; and if there is interest we will also address cultural and intergenerational trauma as well as identity trauma.
