Karate: Strength, Focus, & Self-Defense with Takeshi Kitagawa

Continuing education is about learning something new that supports your goals and connects you with others. This fall, you have the chance to be part of the very first Karate class at North Seattle College. The class is led by Takeshi Kitagawa, a 9th degree black belt in Shotokan karate, who has spent more than 30 years teaching in the US and Japan. He brings not only deep knowledge of karate but also a passion for helping students grow stronger and more confident.

In Karate: Strength, Focus, & Self-Defense, you’ll practice striking, blocking, kata (forms), and controlled sparring in a supportive setting. Training is paced for adults of all fitness levels, so you can join in whether you're brand new or returning to martial arts. Each session helps you build physical strength, improve flexibility, balance, and sharpen mental focus.

What sets this class apart is the way it combines fitness and self-defense with community. You’ll train alongside others who want to stay active and try something different. Takeshi hopes students leave with more confidence in themselves, both physically and mentally. His own superpower is that he never gives up, and he encourages his students to carry that same mindset into their training and their daily lives.

Classes meet twice a week on campus, October 6 through December 10, Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. It’s a chance to learn a respected martial art, reduce stress, and connect with others who share your interest in health and personal growth. Be part of the first group to train with Takeshi at North Seattle College and start building your confidence through karate this fall. Register here now!
