Map and Compass for Beginners

Learn to navigate with confidence using an orienteering compass and topographic map. This beginner-friendly course covers essential skills like understanding the difference between true and magnetic bearings, perfect for hiking, backpacking, or general navigation. Students will first attend an in-person classroom review featuring real-world videos and detailed animations, followed by a hands-on field session to practice your new skills. Please note: GPS and Geocaching are not covered.

Mushroom Foraging & Identification Workshop

Build mushroom foraging and identification skills in a 4-week workshop scheduled at the start of peak mushroom season in the Pacific Northwest. Students will learn about key mushroom habitats, how to find popular edible species, recognizing the most seriously toxic mushrooms, as well as the steps for identifying the 1000+ mushrooms in our region. Students are invited to join a guided foray to North Bend following our final class.

• This class includes a field trip to North Bend on October 24 from 10:00AM to 2:00PM. Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from the field trips. Additional details will be given by your instructor.
