As a boy I fell in love with the Hawaiian sound. I continually looked for teachers as I grew up, but it seems ukulele has a pattern of disappearing then coming back in popularity every 20 or so years. It wasn't until after listening to Israel Kamakawiwo'ole singing the popular Somewhere Over the Rainbow medley in two movies back in 2000, did I finally find the perfect teacher and after, not wanting to stop, help form one of the largest ukulele groups in Seattle. About 2010 I started my own group at the Ballard Senior Center playing Kanakapila style with an emphasis of teaching as we play. In 2013 I continued the Kanakapila closer to home in West Seattle until I moved to Bothell around 2020. While in West Seattle I began to teach Beginning Ukulele at South Seattle College for several quarters, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Once I moved to Bothell it wasn't long until I approached North Seattle College to teach my ukulele classes again. Even though I said the ukulele has a popularity of 20 years or so, it seems to be sticking around in popularity as it has lasted over those 20 years... so come join us, it really is easy and so much fun. You can't help but smile when you play this crazy little instrument. Mahalo and see you in class.
