Introduction to Drawing
Learn the basic techniques of drawing while working from still life, places in our immediate environment and each other in this introductory drawing class. We will focus on the building blocks of drawing such as composition, measurement, line, shape, value, gesture and mark. You will become familiar with a variety of materials and approaches to drawing by studying artwork both historical and contemporary. Although instruction will be rooted in drawing from observation, we will explore the potential to abstract from what we see and experiment with working from memory. Abstract Oils with Cold Wax Medium and Mixed Media
Discover a new creative medium when you combine the classic, rich surfaces of oil painting with the translucent depth and varied textures of cold wax. Exploring these mediums along with acrylic, charcoal, pastels, and ink, including collage, we experiment, discover and learn new ways to give expression to our inner landscape of forms and color.

Introduction to Drawing 2
Get creative while developing skills learned in an Introduction to Drawing course. We will advance our approaches to creating still lifes, as well as working from the landscape and the figure, both from observation (if possible) and from memory. Students will explore concepts of space, light, and form through previous knowledge of materials such as graphite, charcoal, and ink.

Spring at Seattle Art Galleries
What better way to celebrate the lush imagery of spring than to explore the art galleries in Seattle. We will meet weekly at local galleries to hear talks, ask questions, and peruse the space. Following each visit, we will gather for afternoon tea or coffee to discuss the art and share interests. A sampling of galleries includes Greg Kucera, Foster/White, Stonington, ArtX Contemporary, Gray Sky, Harris Harvey, Steinbrueck Native Gallery, and SAM Gallery. Whether you are a seasoned gallery visitor or a newcomer, you are welcome to take part in this harbinger of spring as you experience the Seattle art scene.

Drawing Flowers in Graphite
Unleash your creativity and discover the enchanting world of flowers through the magic of graphite drawing. Whether you’re a beginner or an intermediate artist, this class is designed to guide you on your journey to mastering realistic flower drawings. We’ll build your observational skills, teach you the secrets of value, shading, and form, and help you create a sense of volume and delicate petal textures. You’ll learn how to capture accurate proportions using graphite pencils, and you’ll work from both photographs and real floral specimens. Throughout the course, you’ll practice techniques for line quality, layering tone, and creating depth. Linocut Printmaking: All Levels
Explore linocut relief printmaking and print multiple copies of an image. Students will learn the fundamentals of making black-and-white and color relief prints. This workshop will cover block preparation, transferring an image onto the block, carving techniques, and the printing process. If you already know the basics of block printing and want to learn more - this workshop is great for you too. Participants will leave with prints and with a carved linoleum block which can be used to make more prints. No experience necessary! In this class you will have an opportunity to learn printing on a piece of fabric, printing with a press as well as inking techniques including rainbow roll.

Textured Watercolor Collage
Bring the textures and colors of nature to life with watercolor and collage! Students will begin by creating a variety of painted papers while learning watercolor techniques, including how to create texture using everyday items. Once their papers are complete, students will cut, tear, and layer them to build vibrant collages on large sheets of watercolor paper. The final pieces will fall somewhere between abstract and realistic, inspired by natural forms such as landscapes, plants, and organic shapes. This playful class is designed for adults and encourages experimentation, creativity, and a touch of whimsy!

Watercolor Fruits & Veggies with a Limited Palette
Color can feel challenging, but working with a limited palette is a great way to simplify the process and take some of the stress away. In this watercolor course, we’ll explore color mixing, basic color theory, and watercolor techniques while painting summer’s fruits and vegetables. Students will work from a combination of photographs and fresh specimens they bring to class, learning how a small selection of pigments can create a wide range of beautiful colors. This class is great for beginner to intermediate students. Come discover how less paint can lead to more color!
